The SPEED of Trust: The One Thing that Changes EverythingI bought this book at Borders Kuala Lumpur on 28th Oct 2006. It is a book written by Stephen M.R. Covey and it's title "The Speed of Trust". Mr. Covey is the son of the well known author of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". Mr. Covey is also the CEO of CoveyFranklin.

I highly recommend this book and if you grab it now at the Borders, it is on 20% discount as part of 'Borders Best' selection. In fact I would suggest to make it compulsory reading for all staff. BTW, the price of the book is RM59.90.

This book is very readable and it covers one of the most important ingredient in human relationship, which is Trust. Trust is the bedrock that all human relationships are built on, whether it is personal, family, business, or professional. This book is very inspiring and if you care to take in the lesson and message, you would gain some insight to the true meaning of trust on all levels.

The book is divided into the following chapters:

Firstly, Covey explained how trust affects the trajectory and outcome of our lives - both personally and professionally. He moved on to explain that everyone can do something to improve on trust.

Then, he informed the First Wave is about Self Trust, which is the principle of Credibility. And the four main cores of self trust are made (1) Integrity; (2) Intent; (3) Capabilities; and (4) Results. The first two cores deal with character and the second two cores are related to one's competency. For each core, he explained in detail the quality and expectation of each, and 3 accelerators in building each core.

The Second Wave is about Relationship Trust. In this, Covey outlined the 13 habits which form the relationship trust and suggested an action plan on achieving trust. The thirteen behavior as follows: #1 Talk Straight; #2 Demonstrate Respect; #3 Create Transparency; #4 Right Wrongs; #5 Show Loyalty; #6 Deliver Results; #7 Get Better; #8 Confront Reality; #9 Clarify Expectations; #10 Practice Accountability; #11 Listen First; #12 Keep Commitments; #13 Extend Trust.

The remaining three waves are:
Third Wave - Organizational Trust, the principle of Alignment
Fourth Wave - Market Trust, the principle of Reputation
Fifth Wave - Societal Trust, the principle of Contribution

Finally Covey enlightened us on extending what he defined as "Smart Trust".
